Sweet and Simple: A DIY Doily Bow Garland

There’s something about paper doilies that instantly feels nostalgic and romantic. For this year’s Valentine’s decor, I wanted something soft, classic, and budget-friendly — and this little garland checked every box. Using simple circle paper doilies, tiny bows, and string, I created the sweetest handmade piece that now hangs across our mantel and makes the whole room feel a little more loved.

I started with basic white round paper doilies — the kind you can find at any craft or dollar store. Instead of layering or cutting them, I kept them whole to let their delicate lace pattern really shine, but folded them in half. To dress them up, I attached small bows on each one. The bows added just the right touch of charm and dimension, making the garland feel a little more special than plain paper alone. I spaced each doily evenly along a sturdy piece of twine, keeping everything simple and symmetrical.

What I love most about this garland is how lightweight yet impactful it feels. The intricate edges of the doilies catch the light beautifully, and the bows give it that soft, cottage-inspired detail that blends perfectly with the rest of my decor. It feels vintage in the best way — like something you might find tucked away in your grandma’s Valentine’s box.

This project was inexpensive, easy to make, and perfect for an afternoon craft session. It’s proof that you don’t need fancy supplies to create something meaningful for your home. Sometimes all it takes is paper, ribbon, and a little creativity to add a sweet seasonal touch that makes your space feel warm and welcoming.
