There’s something so sweet about decorating for Valentine’s Day with pieces you’ve handmade with love. This year, instead of buying decorations, I decided to create a few DIY Valentine’s garlands to hang across our mantel and kitchen shelves. They added the prettiest little pop of love to our home — soft, simple, and perfectly cozy.

I kept my supplies minimal and budget-friendly. For one garland, I made love letters out of large heart doilies and felt heart stickers strung together with twine or any string of your choice. I tied bows and hot glued them between each of the letters. The combination of texture from the doilies and dainty bows gives it that cottage-inspired charm I’m always drawn to. The other garlands I made were a variety of heart garlands.
One of my favorite parts of making these garlands was how customizable they were. You can use a variety of colored doilies, colored hearts, ribbons, strings, or even use patterned scrapbook paper rather than plain paper.
The best part? These garlands aren’t just for one day in February. I love leaving them up through the entire season as a reminder to celebrate the small, sweet moments — family dinners, cozy movie nights, and little notes tucked into lunchboxes. Handmade decor has a way of feeling more meaningful, and every time I see those simple paper hearts hanging across the room, it makes our home feel just a little more loved.
